Get a free quoteIn recent years the demand for bifold doors has increased hugely. Realising their potential for really opening up a space to create an ‘outdoor room’, householders across the South West have jumped on the bifold trend in a big way.
The benefits of bifold doors are many. With a varied number of panels that fold away neatly, letting in the maximum amount of light and air, bi-folds really bring all the benefits of open space into your living room, kitchen or dining area. As many people have discovered, these doors are ideal if you’re the kind of person who likes having friends and family around for social occasions on the patio, or just enjoys all the benefits of fresh air and light.
Yet, there will be times when bifolds are closed for longer periods – at night, or over the winter – and some level of privacy is required. Or there may be occasions when you need to keep the sunlight out, perhaps if you’re using the living or dining area as a work-from-home space. Installing curtains isn’t really an option, as they’re likely to get in the way of the bifold’s smooth open-and-close operation and they’ll also look unsightly. You could install external venetian blinds at the windows but again, the rattling against the glass and the awkwardness involved when folding the doors away makes this something of a non-option.
An ideal solution is the installation of integral blinds. These are permanently sealed within the glazing unit cavity and can be controlled either manually or by remote control. Integral blinds aren’t intrusive, neither do they gather dust (so no cleaning involved) or become damaged. Their neat, sophisticated design dovetails perfectly with the smooth, slimline aesthetic of the bifold door and because they can be raised as well as tilted, they don’t compete with the view from inside your home.
Here at Seal Lite, we supply the Uni-Blind system, one of the UK’s leading brands of integral blinds. This system works perfectly with our sealed unit aluminium bifold doors, adding true style to your home.
The way the Uni-Blind works means that only the blind control system is discretely mounted on the frame of the double-glazed unit, and because the slats are inside the two panes of glass there’s no irritating clanking as the blinds are moved up and down. The blind is controlled manually, either by the use of a pully lever, a twist rod or a magnetic slider, depending on your preference. And you can even operate the blind using a remote control, which cuts out the need for any work on your behalf!
As we’ve mentioned the Venetian style of the Uni-Blind is a perfect aesthetic match with the glass panes of a bifold door. But that’s only one of many benefits that an integral blind will bring. They’re totally insulated against dust, so there is no maintenance to consider and they’re exceptionally handy if you happen to suffer from a dust-related allergy.
The Uni-Blind also works in a way that is thermally efficient, helping you to save money while keeping your room warm in winter and cooler in the summer. Our Visofold bifold doors already have outstanding energy-saving values due to their proactive polyamide thermal break. When combined with blinds, the energy efficiency becomes even smarter, and is an excellent way of lower your heating bills considerably. The blinds will also help to control the amount of solar gain entering your room, which again aids thermal efficiency.
Improved security is another important benefit of integral blinds. Most people would rather have some kind of window covering – curtains, shutters or blinds – which can be closed against the elements. While bifold doors offer uninterrupted views of your garden space, you need to remember that they also offer the same view in from the outside. And burglars enjoy nothing more than peering through large windows to see what treasures lie within. Integral blinds are the perfect means of keeping prying eyes away from your property, while you enjoy complete privacy while you’re relaxing, working or eating.
The Uni-Blind isn’t restricted to a single colour. We offer a range of stylish and subtle colours that perfectly complement your bifold doors and the rest of the interior space and decor. Cream and white are highly popular choices, while anthracite grey gives a contemporary, architect-designed look. And we can even provide blinds in shades of yellow, green and blue, for those who really want to make a statement. Whatever your tastes and the style of your home, Uni-Blind is a great option.
Integral blinds are the perfect choice for bifold doors, and are becoming very popular as a result. Here at Seal Lite, we’re always happy to talk to homeowners who would like to know more about our range and how the Uni-Blind system might integrate into an existing bifold, or combine with one of our Visofold doors.
