Orangeries are truly remarkable structures that add heaps of visual appeal and practical features to any home. But, what about a Skyroom Orangery? Have you ever seen one of these? If not, don’t worry, because we’ve taken an in-depth look at them for this blog.
Available in a size and style of your choosing, it’s possible to create a Skyroom Orangery that is wholly unique to your home. The structure can be built entirely from aluminium, contain large amounts of brickwork or have timber cladding. You might even decide to combine all 3 of these design elements and many more, if you wish!
These modern orangeries have energy-efficiency that can’t be matched. We know that the most common issue with many extensions is that the temperates go from extremes in any season. Too hot in summer, too cold in winter is an especially common issue in old orangeries with lots of glass. The skyroom roof alone can achieve a total U-value of just 1 w/m²k, which means it has a thermal performance that is twice as good as its nearest competitor. For this reason, they guarantee a comfortable living environment 365 days a year.

As there are no tie bars or low supports on the roof, the design is very minimalistic. This less obtrusive design and maximum headroom increase the incredibly spacious feel to the modern orangery. In addition to leading the way in terms of style, they’re top of the market in terms of strength. After undergoing independent tests, their roofs have demonstrated that they’re able to withstand a 33% greater load of wind and snow than competing systems. So, you needn’t worry about the weather creeping inside anytime soon.
In addition to this, the roofs used on a skyroom orangery have a ridge that is 70% slimmer than a conventional orangery roofing system. With such a minimal amount of framework, you can enjoy almost uninhibited views of the sky whilst light will easily flow inside.

Internally, Skyroom Orangeries have a pelmet ceiling, the traditional framework above the window space, but as you can see from the image above, it’s been redesigned in a contemporary way to also have spotlights. The recessed spotlights allow you to create a relaxed ambience, perfect for when you want to enjoy your new space in the evening.
Externally, there is a stylish box section that consists of a rafter and fascia board. This gives them a neat and tidy exterior. Plus, not only does this conceal the guttering, but it continues the crisp clean edges around the roof too.
